Snapshots of the Premiere

February 16, 2010

On Thursday, February 11th, following the premiere of TO AGE OR NOT TO AGE at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre, film director, Robert Kane Pappas, was joined by Dr. Robert Butler, Dr Leonard Guarente and Dr. Aubrey de Grey for a lively and stimulating discussion of the issues surrounding the profound discoveries relating to longevity research. The panel discussion was followed by a reception at UnWINed. Robert Kane Pappas shares some personal thoughts about the night of the event:

“Because of the East Coast snow, Aubrey’s Wednesday flight from London to Newark was cancelled, then his scrambling flight to Boston was cancelled. He ended up flying on Thursday from London to Toronto, and from Toronto to NYC. He arrived at the theatre on Thursday at 5 pm, having had about 3 hours of sleep in the previous fifty or sixty.

We immediately downed a couple of beers together, along with Lenny Guarente of MIT, whose train had been cancelled, and who had to drive himself down from Boston.

Our other panelist, Dr. Robert Butler, founder of the National Institute of Aging, joined us with his friend, the sculptor, Herta Gordon, who had slipped on the ice and sported a broken arm.

And that was for starters…

I am grateful to all of the panelists, who have made the effort on a continuous basis. They went way out of their way for me. It says a lot.

The reception following the screening and the panel discussion, continued until around 1:30 am. At this point Aubrey was still holding court in the bar. I looked at him, blindingly bright and articulate as ever, but now covered with a veil of honest weariness and beer. It would be on to Chicago the next day and then to San Francisco. He flies back to the UK from San Francisco on Monday.”
